Strongback Wheelchairs and Transport Chairs

Strongback wheelchairs are the only folding wheelchairs with effective posture support built into the frame, protected by Strongback patents. Choose the self-propelled Strongback Comfort in three sizes, the Strongback Comfort Flip for lateral transfers, the Strongback Heavy Duty for users up to 375 lb, the Strongback Excursion transport chair for caregivers, or the Strongback ErgoSteel at a practical price.

The only folding wheelchairs with effective posture support built into the frame

Protected by Strongback patents. The backrest is integrated into the frame, not a strap-on cushion or an aftermarket pad. It follows the natural lumbar curve, so healthy upright sitting comes with the chair. The backrest tension adjusts to the user on every model.

Award-winning ergonomic design

Strongback's ergonomic design has been recognized three times for its wheelchairs by international design juries.

Questions about choosing a wheelchair

A wheelchair has large rear wheels the user can push to move on their own. A transport chair has small rear wheels and is pushed by a caregiver. The Strongback Comfort, Comfort Flip, Heavy Duty and ErgoSteel are self-propelled wheelchairs with 22- or 24-inch rear wheels. The Strongback Excursion is the transport chair: 12-inch rear wheels, attendant brakes standard, built for indoor mobility and short trips.

If you propel yourself every day, start with the Strongback Comfort and pick the seat width that fits. If transfers from bed or car are part of your day, the Strongback Comfort Flip has flip-back armrests for that. Users above 300 lb need the Strongback Heavy Duty, rated to 375 lb. If a caregiver will push the chair, choose the Strongback Excursion transport chair. For the patented backrest in a robust steel frame, there is the Strongback ErgoSteel.

Seat width by model: Comfort S 16 inches; Comfort M, Comfort Flip, Excursion M and ErgoSteel 18 inches; Comfort L and Excursion L 20 inches; Heavy Duty 22 inches. Our Wheelchair Measuring & Sizing Guide shows how to measure and which size to choose.

Carry Weight is the frame alone, without wheels, legrests or anti-tippers: Comfort S 15.0 lb, Comfort M 16.1 lb, Comfort L 16.5 lb, Comfort Flip 16.1 lb, Heavy Duty 27.8 lb, ErgoSteel 18.3 lb (Total Weight 35.7 lb with wheels and legrests). The Excursion M and L weigh 26.2 lb and 26.7 lb including their 12-inch rear wheels, which stay on.

Every Strongback wheelchair is rated for users up to 300 lb, except the Strongback Heavy Duty, which is rated for 375 lb.

The Strongback Comfort S, Comfort M and L, Comfort Flip, Heavy Duty and ErgoSteel have quick-release rear wheels. The 12-inch rear wheels of the Strongback Excursion stay on. Every Strongback chair folds.
